SciFest 2009
SciFest is a local one-day Science Fair held in Institutes of Technology and open to second level students. It includes an exhibition and competition of projects produced by second-level students, a selection of science talks and a prize-giving ceremony.
It is a national event which aims to encourage a love of science and provide an opportunity for students to display their scientific discoveries. Over 250 students visited DkIT on 6th May to display their projects. Fifteen schools from Louth, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan are participated in the fair.
Seven different teams entered from De La Salle, all of whom did extremely well but in particular Alex Kenny-Fagan who won the Intermediate Life Sciences category.
The De La Salle teams were:

"To investigate the effects of music on our study skills"

"To investigate if the health warnings on cigarette boxes have any effect"
Fiachra T. Murtagh:
"Do plants rely more on sunlight or water"
Jason Kirk, Cathal Manning, Eamonn Laramie:
"Is static electricity capable of powering a light bulb"
