De La Salle 2nd Highest Fundraiser in
MS READATHON
For the sixth consecutive year first, second and third year students from the De La Salle College in Dundalk have been involved in the MS Readathon. This involves raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland through sponsorship for reading done during a specified period of time. The Readathon has been a great success in the College since 2002, with the current year's efforts surpassing all previous years.
This year €11,286.20 was the total raised by 244 students from 11 classes in 3 year groups. This brings the total raised by the students of the College for the six years to €29,980.20. Every contribution is an essential element in the total, but it is difficult not to recognise those who have raised incredible sums of hundreds of euros in some cases. In particular, a second year student, Alex Kenny-Fagan raised €400 to add to the €250 he contributed last year.
The organisers would like to thank all those involved; teachers, parents and students. In particular a great debt of gratitude is owed to those members of the general public who have contributed to this fabulous total through sponsorship/donation.
Finally, a word about the students who undertake this endeavour each year. They do so with enthusiasm and fantastic goodwill. Without their energy, effort and interest the success we have enjoyed over the years would not be as significant as it is. We hope that the competitive environment of the Readathon encourages them to read and to be in the habit of reading for the rest of their lives.
