LE CHEILE SCHOOLS TRUST
On Thursday 19th November, 2009 the De La Salle College in Dundalk was officially welcomed into the Le Cheile Schools Trust. The ceremony to mark the passing over of the trusteeship took place following a mass in St. Joseph's church, Castletown, celebrated by Fr. Padraig Keenan.
It was attended by sixth year representatives and all first, second and fifth year students. Also in attendance were Sean Goan and Ailish Humphreys both of the Le Cheile Trust; Siobhan Greer, Principal of St. Louis, Dundalk and members of the Parents' Association, The Board of Management and the De La Salle congregation.
The Le Cheile Schools Trust is a collaborative trust set up by 13 congregations including The De La Salle Brothers. The trust will carry out the role of the patron previously exercised by the congregations. In setting up the trust the congregations wished to affirm their commitment to the future of Catholic education; to provide for the needs of the students and communities in their schools and to honour their partnership with the government in the education system.
A reception was held in the school library following the ceremony where students, teachers, trustees and members of the board and the parent's association informally chatted about the significance of this momentous event.
