Irish Debaters

Díospóireacht na Gaeilge
De La Salle's Irish Debating Team continued on to the next round of the Gael Linn Debates. The Team of Ciarán Sunderland, Ben Mulholland and Conor McBride performed brilliantly on Tuesday night last in Bettystown. The motion discussed was, 'Téimid thar fóir ag ceiliúradh na Nollag', saying that we go over the top celebrating Christmas, a motion the De La Salle team opposed. Ciarán began by defining the motion as well as stating why Christmas is so important to us, that it is not the presents we give, but the emotions we get, from giving and receiving. Ben then came up and described the true celebration of Christmas, referring to our Charity, the coming together of the family and Children's activities at Christmas. Finally, Conor McBride closed the debate by declaring that we are not truly celebrating Christmas, how can we go over the top with it? Conor asked where the celebration of the birth of Jesus was in the arguments of the opposition? The De La Salle went through on the night along with Coláiste na hInse, Bettystown, defeating Coláiste Dún Lughaidh and Scoil an Ghraiméir, Dundalk. The school are extremely proud of the team. Comhgairdeas libh!
