Great Ireland Run

Charity Work

On Sunday the 10th of April 37 boys from the De La Salle completed the Spar Great Ireland Run, Ireland's fastest growing race, in the Phoenix Park Dublin.

On the day the hot weather drew a massive crowd of supporters but it made the 2.5km run that little bit more difficult for the participants. Eddie Hobbs got the televised race underway at 11.15am and the teachers, Ms Nolan, Ms Egan, Ms Hoyne and Mr Cumiskey waited anxiously by the finish line.

The heat didn't get in the way of success, three of the students came in the first fifty places; Mark Gilmore 26th, Dylan Martin 32nd and Liam Lawlor 46th. This was hailed as a massive achievement as over 1,200 boys and girls took part in the junior race, many of whom were seasoned runners.

The great Sonia O Sullivan ran along side the under sixteens to lend them her support and perhaps also to keep one eye on her daughter who took part and finished in first place for the girls.

All of the boys who took part did their best to raise funds for the
Lasallian World Development Projects which Ms Hoyne and Mr Cumiskey are involved in this summer in India. So far an impressive €1500 has been raised. The day was such a success that it is now to be an annual event for the boys of the De La Salle; next year we are aiming for the top twenty spots!
