Class Act 2008 in 'An Tain' Theatre Dundalk showcased fifteen of the finest singers, dancers, thespians and musicians that De La Salle College has to offer. Conceived and organised by Ms. Pamela Campbell (Music Teacher), 'Class Act' offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their creative talents outside of the classroom. This year was the fifth year of the show and once again the students enthralled the packed theatre with their vast array of varying talents.

The night got off to lightening start with the sixth year dudes and divas dancing to the hits of the ever popular 1978 hit film Grease. Lead dancers Darren Ludlow and Sarah Callan captivated the crowd with their energetic and perfectly coordinated routines.
'Karate Kid' a.k.a. Liam Lawlor of 1st Year followed with a skilled martial arts routine. Next came last year's winner, 3rd year student and singer -songwriter, Francis Watters. He impressed once again with a very accomplished performance of a Blink 182 song. Socotoha, a 6th year band (David Mc Guinness, Colin Dooley and Anthony Vize) followed with a wonderful version of popular 'Scrubs' theme tune 'I'm No Superman!' The exceptionally entertaining 'Evolution Of Dance' came next. 6th years Ronan Keane, Eugene McArdle and David Kieran enthralled the packed town hall with some killer moves to a medley of disco classics. They were followed by DLS, a 1st year boy band, who wowed the audience with their version of Take That's 'Never Forget'. They were followed by one of the highlights of the night, Brandon McGee, a.k.a. Elvis, whose version of 'Suspicious Minds' would have made the King himself proud! The superbly choreographed and hilarious 'Just D Lads' dance routine finished off a very strong first half to the show.

The second half began with the School Scene, a comic drama about life in the classroom. Stephen Farrelly a.k.a. Mandy stole the show with a thoroughly engaging and humorous performance. Next came third year singer Cormac Todd accompanied by Kieran Breagy on guitar. His version of Valerie by the Zutons was enchanting.
The audience next enjoyed the sublimely talented Sean Conway, brother of famous fiddle player Zoe. Sean gave a master class in classical music. His performance of 'The Maple Leaf' was stunning. 6th year boy band, 'The Stringy G's' followed with a rousing rendition of recent Boyzone hit 'Love You Anyway'. Next it was the turn of 6th Year rockers, Conor 'Fweder' Clarke, Cillian Dullaghan Nathan Shields and 1st Year Brandon McGee a.k.a. 'Three and a half Men', who got the sell out crowd rocking with a brilliant version of Fleetwood Mac's 'Oh Well'.
'Something with Style',a hip hop act comprised of Jordan Lee, Stefan Agbogbe, John Rafferty and Conor Crosse, astounded the crowd with their brilliantly choreographed flips, kicks and moonwalks.
Finally alternative rock band 'Gorilla Warfare' (Francis Watters, Niall Clarke and Darren Hoey) closed the show on a high with near perfect covers of the Kings Of Leon and Blink 182.

As the judges deliberated the tension in the theatre was palpable. Mr. Brian Halpin, who was making his debut as Class Act compere, entertained the crowd with assured ease and composure as they anxiously awaited the result. All the weeks of rehearsals and hard work had come down to this moment. Sarah O'Hare, a local musician and music teacher in Gormanstown College delivered the much anticipated verdict. Third place went to the flawless and engrossing 'Evolution Of Dance' routine The incredible Sean Conway was awarded second place for his classical piece. The winners of the coveted class act trophy on this wonderful night were alternative band 'Gorilla Warfare' who received high praise from guest judge Tony Burke of Warner Music Ireland.
